Tel Aviv [Israel], February 9: Hamas fighters have targeted an Israeli Merkava tank with a Yassin-105 rocket in the industrial area of western Gaza City.
The armed wing of Hamas, Qassam Brigades also said clashes took place with Israeli soldiers in the same area, with an unspecified number killed and wounded.
The Israeli military has said 219 soldiers have been killed and another 1,260 wounded since the ground invasion of Gaza began in late October.
The armed wing of the Palestinian Hamas said in a statement that its fighters have used a "guided missile" to attack a group of Israeli soldiers who had taken a position inside a residential building.
The attack took place in the al-Hawaz area in western Khan Younis, the statement said. It made no mention of injuries or deaths among the soldiers.
The Israeli army has turned its focus southwards towards Rafah since the army declared victory last week over the Palestinian factions in Khan Younis. However, the city's two main hospitals, al-Amal and Nasser, remain under siege.
Meanwhile, Lebanese group Hezbollah has announced attack on northern Israel.
The group said on its Telegram channel that it targeted the Birkat Risha site in Israel with two rockets, which achieved direct hits.
This attack took place at 4:35pm local time (14:35 GMT), the statement said.
Earlier, a drone strike that hit a car in southern Lebanon's Nabatieh reportedly wounded a Hezbollah commander critically.
These exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli army are a daily occurrence, and are driving fears of regional spillover of the Gaza conflict.
